It’s about an extremely socially awkward girl, who has fallen in love with/become an otaku for Jellyfish ever since she saw one at an aquarium when she was a child. Her name is Tsukimi Kurashita…
Who one day meets a beautiful girl…
…who actually…isn’t a girl.
That’s right. He’s a boy, who is cross dressing as a way of rebelling against his politician father who wants him to become the perfect son and a politician like himself, where he, Kuranosuke Koibuchi, prefers to go into a career with fashion.
He becomes fascinated with Tsukimi because she’s so different from any other girls he’s interacted with, and also gets to know the strange house-mates she lives with who are all also otaku for something (none are anime otaku, in Japan, otaku are just people who are extremely focused in on an interested in a certain thing. There’s one who’s an otaku for figurines of samurai. There’s one who’s an otaku for trains. There’s one who’s an otaku for Japanese dolls. etc). And he becomes very invested in them, but especially for Tsukimi if ya know what I mean.
Anyway, I don’t want to give too much away, because this is a really cute, fun and unique Shoujo anime about people’s passions and how initial impressions can be deceiving, with really cute and funny moments. There’s also a side-plot concerning Kuranosuke’s older brother and a real estate developer who is the villain of this anime in a way (she wants to destroy the apartment Tsukimi and her friends are living in to build a hotel). I can’t recommend this anime enough to Shoujo fans and maybe others too.
Plus I absoutely adore the opening, it’s so cute:
Watch it…Just…DO IT!!!!
I second this wholeheartedly.
